Alberta Pork Advocates for Producers

Alberta Pork Board Chair Alastair Bratton and Executive Director Darcy Fitzgerald met with Alberta’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Tara Sawyer, to discuss key priorities for Alberta’s pork industry, including the African Swine Fever (ASF) Recovery Plan, Business Risk Management tools, Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (S-CAP) programming, and labour challenges.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to thank the Government of Alberta for its continued support of livestock disease prevention and preparedness, the Wild Boar Buy-Out Program, and Alberta’s swine traceability initiatives. Alberta Pork appreciates the ongoing collaboration to help strengthen the province’s pork industry.

Time Is Running Out!

The deadline is almost here! If you’re a Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) certified producer, this is your opportunity to help shape an important decision for Alberta’s pork industry.

Alberta Pork is seeking producer feedback on the potential inclusion of a porcine by-product feed restriction within the CPE program. Your input will be reviewed by the Board of Directors before a decision is made—but only surveys received by July 31 will be considered.

Don’t miss your chance to have your voice heard. Complete and return your survey before the deadline to ensure your perspective is part of this important industry discussion.

Every eligible producer has one vote, and every response matters.

Safety Tip of the Month

Disinfectants, medications, and cleaning products are essential-but they can pose risk if not handled properly.

Practical tip: Always read labels before use and store chemicals in clearly marked containers away from feed and livestock areas.

Safety starts with knowledge. AgSafe Alberta offers practical online training to help pork produces and workers strengthen workplace safety. Each module takes about 30 minutes and focuses on real hazards and responsibilities on farms.
