Overview
Alberta Pork is pleased to announce a new partnership with Food Banks Alberta. Last week, Alberta's hog farmers donated five pallets of vacuum-packed fresh pork tenderloin, representing more than 5,000 tenderloins or enough for 15,000 meal portions.
“We are beyond grateful for our new partnership with Alberta Pork,” says Arianna Scott, CEO, Food Banks Alberta. “We know that thousands of families across our province are experiencing food insecurity, and as a result, are accessing their community food banks. This donation of fresh pork to Food Banks Alberta and our member food banks in communities like Barrhead, Red Deer, Lethbridge and across the province will help us to continue to meet the needs of our communities so that no-one goes hungry.”
According to the 2021 Hunger Count Report by Food Banks Canada, food banks across Alberta experienced a 30 per cent increase in access starting in March 2021 – one of the highest access rates in the country.
“Alberta’s hog farmers are a proud part of their local communities. Partnering with Food Banks Alberta is a great way to support our community members grappling with food insecurity,” said Brent Moen, Chair, Alberta Pork. “Food banks struggle to find fresh, healthy food – especially meat – to provide their clients, and we are happy to help fill that void.”
Additional donations are eagerly anticipated in the coming months. Community food bank clients receiving tenderloins will be given recipes for inspiration on how they can conveniently prepare pork at home. Organizations and individuals wishing to contribute to this initiative are asked to contact Food Banks Alberta or Alberta Pork.
