For producers certified under the existing Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA) program, a reminder that program obligations are still in place, including your annual validation renewal. If yours is approaching due, please be diligent in following up with your validator.
At the Alberta Pork annual general meeting in November 2018, our producers voted to pass a resolution postponing Alberta’s participation in the incoming Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) program until federal processors agreed to a certain reimbursement per head. The Alberta Pork Board of Directors continues to discuss the matter with the Canadian Pork Council (CPC), other provincial pork marketing boards and federal processors to reach a favourable outcome for all stakeholders.
The CPE program will be officially launched nationally in April 2019, with or without Alberta Pork’s participation at that time. The program, administered by the CPC, is the latest edition of quality assurance programming for pork production in Canada and will effectively replace CQA in the future.
