The Alberta Pork Board of Directors, staff and over 700 registered producers congratulate and welcome two board directors taking their positions in 2019.
Stan Vanessen of Picture Butte will begin his first term, and Hendrik Fourie of Iron Springs will begin his second term, officially commencing when a board meeting is held shortly after semi-annual producer meetings scheduled for early March, announced on January 29, 2019.
Stan is a partner-owner of AVE Farms Ltd., which has been producing hogs for more than four decades. Stan sees a real need for changes to the current pork pricing situation and marketing model to help improve profitability for independent producers.
Hendrik holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and is involved in mixed farming, including pigs, dairy, sheep and crops. Hendrik knows that we are facing some challenging times in the pig industry and hopes to contribute in any way to make this sector more secure.
Registered Alberta pork producers were sent nomination forms on December 20, 2018, calling for members of the hog industry to fill two vacant board director positions. By the end of the working day on January 25, 2019, Darcy Fitzgerald, Executive Director & Chief Returning Officer, Alberta Pork, had received two nominations. Following the nomination deadline, Stan and Hendrik were contacted to confirm the acceptance of their positions.
