Celebrating the pig-skin spirit with the Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton Eskimos are in the heat of the 2017 season, and Alberta Pork has joined forces to help cheer them on to the Grey Cup! When you join in on an Eskimos home game, you’re in for a bit more than just waving a couple of flags around a parking lot.
Each home game is celebrated with the growing league of tailgaters and Eskimos fans who arrive before the game to grill up tasty snacks and bask in the greatness that is Alberta summertime. Eskimos spirit is high, and you can see green and gold covering everyone and everything in Lot A. Not only are the friends and family who have joined here excited about the upcoming game, but we all look forward to sharing some of our favourite BBQ classics, and trying new ideas with Passion for Pork with Porkapalooza learned techniques.
At our last home game we had some amazing guests join us: Bacon Champion Russell Bird, the masterminds behind Dansons, our dear friend Joan Paton from YESS, and of our regulars helped grill up some amazing food and cheer on the Eskimos with a community of tailgaters.
Each week our Executive Director, Darcy Fitzgerald, puts in the time to create a new pork dish to be served. On August 4th we were treated to an abundance of comfort-food themed treats including bacon mac n cheese, bacon wrapped pickles, pork tenderloin served on a bun with slaw, and pork nuggets - all done on the smoker. Darcy has come to be known by the other tailgaters as “The Pork Guy” for his amazing dishes that really stand out amongst the hot dogs and burgers that are traditionally served.
We look forward to seeing what Darcy has to feed us at the next home game, and are thrilled to have an opportunity to share some of our favourite things with friends, family, and tailgaters who enjoy Pork just as much as we do! Find some of the recipes that Darcy used on passionforpork.com.
