Environmental Management System

An environmental management system is a more detailed and comprehensive than the Alberta environmental farm plan program and helps provide “due diligence”. The AEPF can be used as part of a total EMS . The Hog EMS is structured similarly in terms of risk identification and record keeping to the HACCP-based Alberta Quality Pork on-farm food safety program.

A guidance document (CSA-Z772) for the Hog EMS standard has been developed to facilitate the understanding of the requirements in the standard. In order to facilitate environmental certification, CPC has developed a producer's manual and an internet interactive support system. The hog EMS standard is consistent with principles outlined in the International environmental management standard ISO 14001.
