Alberta Pork Industry Job Definitions

The Alberta Pork Producers Alliance (APPA) has drawn up a list of job descriptions for use by producers applying for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) in order to recruit a foreign worker.  This has been developed in order to align jobs within the pork industry with the National Occupation Classification (NOC), which is a standardized framework for defining job categories.  It is important that the requirements for a position, as defined both in advertising and the application for an LMO, match the appropriate definitions within the NOC.  Therefore producers are advised to follow the job titles and the requirements for those job titles when recruiting a foreign worker.

The Alberta Pork Industry Job Definitions have been agreed upon with Service Canada, formerly Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), and therefore the application process will be expedited by following the guidelines shown in the table.  Note that these are minimum requirements and so producers may choose to stipulate higher levels of education, experience and ability as required.  In the case of salaries, the average salary shown in the table is the minimum required to be paid to a foreign worker by Service Canada, although producers may wish to pay more than this level according to qualifications and experience.

For Department Supervisor, Assistant Manager and Manager positions, the job descriptions have each been split into two levels according to size of the production unit.  Where a producer has a position in a specialist nursery or finisher unit at one of these levels it can be fitted into one of the categories shown in the table according to the equivalent size of the enterprise and responsibility of the job.
